Single Exit Stair Buildings

The BC Government recently amended the BCBC to allow for residential buildings with a single exit stair, as is permitted in many other countries. 

This allows for more efficient building designs on small lots and for density to be added to smaller lots in cities without the costly and time-consuming process of assembling land parcels. It also allows for unit designs with windows on multiple facades, which can have benefits in natural lighting, cross-ventilation, and reduced road noise exposure for more livable apartments.

Key features in this new building type include sprinkler systems, a maximum of 4 units per floor, and a larger 1500mm wide stair.
